Jackie earned a Creative Writing degree from
Sam Houston State University, graduating cum laude.
She owns and is managing editor of Stone River
Press.

of the Texas Review at Sam Houston State University
appeared in the Writers Market.
DRAMA: “Saber Dance,” a
dramatic monologue was selected for performance
in June 2003 by The Fan Factory Theatre Company
of Houston for their “Squeeze Play”
series.

SPEAKER: She has conducted workshops
on poetry and self-publishing, and spoken about
poetry in schools. Has been on panels and spoken
to various organizations about writing. Example:
Houston Poetry Fest, North Harris County College
Creative Writing Dept., Houston Chapter of Poetry
Soc. of Tx., Poets Northwest, Bay Area Writers
League Conference. Conducted
a workshop for Houston Writers Guild on Enhancing
your Writing and has spoken at several book
and breakfast clubs.
AWARDS FOR THE NOVEL: Won Rice University's
Novel/General Fiction Award for Under the Rose,
a World War II intrigue (to be published by Eakin
Press in 2002). Won Houston Writers League's award
for Prophecy of the White Buffalo, an Action/Adventure/Western
manuscript available for publication.
MEMBERSHIP/JUDGE/SPONSOR: Membership
in several writers groups and each year sponsors
contests in many of these organizations, often
acts as a judge. Example: the most recent 2001
judging of the Middle School Student Contest
for Poetry Society of Texas, the Action/Adventure
category for the Houston Writers League and
as preliminary judge for poetry for Woodlands
Writers Guild. She edits for a select few. She
hosted the pre-conference party for the Woodlands
Writers' Guild Conference at her home, and hosts
in her home each year a reading for each new
Suddenly anthology.
APPOINTMENTS, ETC.: In 2001, Jackie
was appointed to the post of Houston area councilor
for the Poetry Society of Texas. She is a member
of the Gold Key Honor Society, a past secretary
for the SHSU Alumni Association, and a member
of the American Association of University Women,
North Houston Chapter.

JACKIE DOES HAVE A PERSONAL LIFE:
She has lived in Houston most of her life and
attended San Jacinto High School, North Harris
County College and Sam Houston State University
where she earned a BA in English/Creative Writing
with a minor in History. She and her husband
Joel have been married for thirty-odd years and
since 1967 have owned/operated Weldwire Company
of Texas, Inc. that sells and manufactures Positioning
Equipment. Joel is an antique car and vintage
Schwinn bicycle enthusiast. They have three grown
children and four grandchildren.
Jackie's interests include writing, publishing,
crossword puzzles, swimming, traveling, card playing,
reading and the cinema.
